Aerial is a macOS screensaver that lets you play videos from Apple's tvOS screensaver. This includes classic Aerial videos shot over various cities and locations (New York, San Francisco, China...), Earth videos from the ISS, and the new underwater videos introduced in tvOS 13. Starting with version 2.0, Aerial also includes videos from 3rd parties that kindly shared them, and you can also now add your own!
Aerial Companion (the app that auto-updates the screensaver) is getting a much needed makeover with a new UI. This is still in beta and the design will likely change a bit, but the goal is to make some more room to add new features.

After Dark will forever be remembered as the screen saver that got the screen saving boom started in the 90s. Through the artistic foresight and the engineering spirit of two people, Jack Eastman and Patrick Beard, After Dark was born.
It started life on the Macintosh. Later, Berkeley Systems, the publisher of After Dark, along with Jack Eastman and Patrick Beard, would team up with Bill Stewart and Ian MacDonald at Software Dynamics. Through this collaboration, After Dark for Windows was born. (Stewart and MacDonald were the creators of the Magic screen saver, which was the first screen saver for Windows. Digging through the box, I found the installation floppy neatly placed in its envelope. After more looking, I spotted the manual as I started about the process of installing After Dark. Once installed, I was in complete awe of each and every module. With eyes glued to the screen, I stayed up late into the night watching in awe as the artwork and images flooded the screen and my memory.
Star Trek Movie Screensaver is a screensaver for Windows. It is not necessarily based on the last Star Trek movie by J.J. Abrams. The screensaver is basically a slideshow of a few images from the Star Trek universe. Most of the pictures are ships, either captured from TV shows, or from banners and ads.
The pictures are all of standard definition. A lot of ships are represented in this screensaver. I was able to see the original Enterprise, with designation NCC-1701A, the Enterprise from the TV show "Enterprise", with designation NX-01, the USS Voyager, a few Romulan warships and a few Klingon Birds of Prey.
If you go to the settings of this screensaver, you will see that not much can be changed. You can set random transition effects between pictures and hide the clock or change the way it is displayed. The settings screen also shows the keyboard keys that can be used along with an explanation of what they do.
All in all, fans of the Star Trek shows will undoubtedly enjoy this screensaver, simply because it shows Star Trek ships. Nothing spectacular is shown in it, though. People who are not Star Trek fans might want to skip this altogether.
Developed by Berkeley Systems in 1989 for Macintosh (and ported to Windows in 1991), Flying Toasters was part of a series called After Dark, which later introduced Simpsons, Star Trek, and Disney-themed screensavers.
Flying Toasters was a huge step above the first screensaver, which was introduced only six years earlier. Developed by John Socha Opens a new window for the original IBM PC Opens a new window, "scrnsave" featured a black screen that would pop up after three minutes of inactivity. The first screensaver that let users choose an activation interval came out on Apple's Lisa that same year.
(Curiously enough, an early reference to a screensaver appeared in Robert A. Heinlein's Opens a new window 1961 novel "Stranger in a Strange Land Opens a new window," where he described "a stereovision tank disguised as an aquarium." Bet you didn't know that.)
Now, 30 years later, it's safe to say that we've come a long way. No longer do we need screensavers to prevent burn-in, but we still use them, because they're entertaining, interesting to look at, and maybe even laced with a little nostalgia.
I'll be honest: The first time I saw this screensaver, I was hooked. I couldn't look away. While some might critique this Opens a new windowas looking like "Wolfenstein 3D Opens a new window minus the gamplay, plus a horrible red brick color scheme," I say, "Bravo, Microsoft. You did good work here."
I miss screensavers in general, really. Used to have a good number of them. Takes me back to when I'd spend so much time just personalizing the hell out of my Windows 98 with all those Plus! themes and whatever else I came across. So much more personality than these sterile interfaces we get now.
I've had every one of these at some point. Mystery was one of my favorites. The only one I ever paid for was an aquarium screensaver for Windows 95. Pushed the system so hard it would freeze every couple of minutes making the screensaver feature useless.
Not that old :-) , I started with TRS-80s in school and the whole class shared a single tape drive. You powered on your TRS80 sequentially after the person before you did, otherwise you'd have a tape boot storm. 2ff7e9595c
